Hello everyone! Back again as promised. I have been interested in participating in card challenges for a while now. I often look to sketches for inspiration on how to layout a card. I had a few birthday cards to make, so I thought it was a prime opportunity to try out this CAS(E) this Sketch Challenge #125. For Card 1, I penciled marked on how wide I wanted the stencil on top and bottom and that gave me the center space for the solid line. I taped down half the stencil and used a mini ink blender to blend in the ink. Then I used painter's tape to block off the stenciling and used a mini blender to fill in the Grape Jelly center line. For the sentiment, I used the Big Birthday Wishes in Momento Tuxedo Black Ink but I wanted it a little less bold, so I stamped off first and used the second generation on the card. I did the same process for the Happy Birthday. I added Wink of Stella over the sentiment and it darkened up the ink slightly.
On the inside of card 1 I used the Grape Jelly and Razzberry to ink up the sentiment. As you can tell a little bit of the colors blended. I liked the way it turned out. For Card 2, I used the same stenciling technique but this time over patterned paper from My Mind's Eye. I penciled out and masked the center line and used a mini ink blender to blend in the center line color. For the sentiments I used first generation stamping. I added a hand-drawn exclamation point after the first line sentiment and the wavy lines under the second line sentiment. I also put some Wink of Stella in the stenciling. On the inside of card 2 I used Rhubarb Stalk and Peacock Feathers for the sentiment and candle. For the flame of the candle I originally stamped it in Momento Tuxedo Black but didn't like it so I cutout a flame from the golden yellow paper I used on the front to cover it up. I also added Wink of Stella on the candle base. Thanks again for stopping by! Was away for the long weekend (Memorial day) and then it was back to work, gym and the watching the basketball playoffs (go Warriors!). Found it a little challenging to make time to create something -- even though I wanted to! I had a graduation party to go to this weekend and made three cards to go along with gifts (supplies below). The first card is for the graduate and the other two were for the proud parents. I have a few more graduate cards to make (HS and M.S.) so I might amend this post. Also I have a few more birthday cards to make (belatedly) so I hope to create some more and add those up this weekend as well. Thanks for stopping by! Graduate Card: Made this for a female HS Graduate, so this has a slightly feminine touch. Looking back, I wished I had put a few rhinestones for some bling! (Although I kind of like the texture from the paper on the back side. Makes it looked like I did some dry embossing!). I also popped up the from panel with some foam tape. To show my n00b-ness, I forgot to right down the dimensions to this card. You might be able to tell that it is a little wider than 5.25. Sorry! I think it is 5.25 x 6? After much encouragement from my supportive other half, I am taking a leap into the blogverse and am starting a blog centered around my personal crafting experience. I was (and still am) someone who loves spending hours in the card aisles. After many years (and dollars) later I thought to myself "maybe I could try to make some cards on my own". Before I even made my first card I started watching copious amounts of crafting videos and of course became big fans of some the well know card crafters out there. Things took off from there and I am definitely hooked on this "hobby"! I hope you find inspiration here and wish a lot of fun along the way! ~liz |
